Monmouth County is located in central New Jersey. It is home to the famous Asbury Park boardwalk. The county has been experiencing the problem of drug and alcohol abuse with the rate of deaths from overdoses increasing dramatically over the last couple of years.

Overdose rates in Monmouth County, New Jersey

The commonly abused drugs are opioids. The following are the towns in Monmouth with the most admissions for heroin and other opiates in 2014.

Middletown          167 (Heroin) 42 (Other Opiates)

Asbury Park        144  21

Long Branch        135 19

Howell                 128 30

Keansburg           111 39

In 2016 there were 164 deaths reported due to opiate overdose. In 2017, the death rate almost doubled.

As you can see, drug abuse is a significant problem in the County. To help reduce this death rate, acceptance for the abuser that there is a problem is the first step. You have to admit that it is causing a lot of pain to your family. If for example the husband is affected, the wife and children will feel the pain. The parents and siblings of the addicted person will also feel the pain and any associated misery.

The only way to recovery is having a complete change of your environment. You need to stay away from those people or places which lead you to use the drugs. You have to accept that you have a problem which is causing you (and others) pain.

To recover from the pain, you have to seek treatment since addiction is a disease. In case you know anyone who has been affected by drugs, you can always advise them to visit any of the following resources where they can get support.

Remember though, that many addicts will simply deny they have a problem, so it is up to the addict to make the decision themselves.

  1.    Narcotics Anonymous, NA,-This is a nonprofit society of men and women for whom use of drugs had become a major problem. They are recovering addicts who have decided to quit using drugs. This is a program of complete abstinence from all drugs. The only requirement to be a member is the desire to stop using drugs.
  2.    Alcoholic Anonymous, AA-The primary purpose is to pass information on Alcoholics Anonymous. The primary goal is to provide help those who are still suffering.
  3.    Al-Anon meeting-At al-anon, their main purpose is to have an alcohol free family. If one of your family members is addicted to drinking alcohol, then the entire family is affected. The family and marriage may experience pain due to alcoholism.

Since alcoholism is a family disease, the family is the best suited to help solve the condition.

  1.    Maryland addiction and Recovery Centre- if you want to get treatment away from the city, you may opt for Maryland Addiction and Support Centre. At the center, you will get support which will help you towards your recovery path. They will also be able to make up some follow up to see how you are doing during and after treatment.

You have a big role in controlling your life and those of your loved ones. The path to recovery from drug addiction may be painful, but it is worth the fight.
